The Friends of Broadfield Park

Work Groups

We meet on Saturday mornings between 10 and 12.30. Click here to check dates.

Please note :- It is possible that due to poor weather conditions and/or too few volunteers, that a Work Group session maybe be cancelled at short notice therefore leaving insufficient time for the website to be updated. Where possible, info will be sent out via email and posted on our Facebook page.

We try to set the meeting and work group dates to suit the majority of people wishing to attend. Unfortunately sometimes the dates do not suit everybody, we understand people have other work and family commitments but we do appreciate your time and support whenever it can be given. Thank you.

A big thank you to all the folks, members and volunteers from Gatwick Greenspace, that come along to our Work Groups. We continue to remove the Rhoddys and a further large area has been cleared opening up new areas of the Park. Every little helps and with the guidance of Janet Rose from the Parks Dept we hope to be able to continue to improve the Park for all to enjoy with more clearance, planting and seeding ! So if you have a bit of time to spare and want to help, why not drop by at our next Work Group and see what its all about. We look forward to see-ing you ! If you would like more information, please Contact Us.

Since Autumn 2009, the Friends of Broadfield Park have worked closely with our local councillors and have held a number of 'work group' sessions to start clearing some of the more overgrown areas. Janet Rose from the Crawley Borough Council Parks Dept, has been onsite on these occasions giving expert guidance, supplying the necessary tools and generally keeping us 'at it' !

The Pear Arch has been cut back and is being restored, with further work planned to plant missing trees. Work has started to cut back the Rhododendron to open up the space more and give the trees more space to flourish as well as giving some great views through to the lake.

With the recent improvements to the Dam and lake area, there is also a whole new area to decide what to do with !

We held a Public Meeting on Monday 15 November 2010, at the Broadfield Youth and Community Centre, to share with the local community the work done so far, some ideas they have for the future, and also to get input from more local people to understand what they would like the park to be like, and also encourage others to join the group and show their support.

There is a great opportunity for local communities to get involved in a passionate and committed group, so please do go along to see whether this is something you would like to get involved in, or just to share your views and ideas on how they can improve Broadfield Park for future generations to come.

A lot has been done and its looking better already, but there is still a lot more to do . . . .

We have more dates planned, so if you are feeling energetic and have a few hours to spare (normally Saturdays 10:00 - 12:30, weather permitting) we would be very pleased to hear from you !

You can see pictures of the Work Groups, Park and House in our Photo Gallery. If you have any information or pictures (old or new) about the park or house, that you would be willing to share on this website, then please get in touch. Thanks.
